The SEAI ENERGISE Fellowship Programme 2025 is more than just funding—it’s a career-defining opportunity to influence Ireland’s sustainable future. With generous support, real-world impact, and connections to national policy, this is one of the most strategic fellowships available in the energy research space today. Whether you’re developing a groundbreaking behavioural study or embedding with SEAI’s policy teams, your work can shape Ireland’s clean energy legacy.

For more details and to begin your application, visit the official SEAI fellowship page.

What Is the SEAI ENERGISE Fellowship Programme?

The ENERGISE Fellowship is part of SEAI’s broader mission to lead Ireland towards a cleaner, more efficient energy future. It funds individuals who can develop practical, evidence-based insights to inform national policy, program design, or academic innovation.

There are two categories of fellowships:

Academic Fellowships

These fellows work from their host institution—typically an Irish university or research centre. You’ll have the freedom to design your own project as long as it aligns with SEAI’s mission. It’s a great option if you’re an academic researcher with a unique idea that could influence policy or energy behaviour in Ireland.

SEAI-Based Fellowships

This type places researchers directly inside SEAI’s Dublin headquarters. You’ll collaborate with SEAI staff on high-priority topics, staying employed by your home institution. These fellowships are project-specific, with themes such as:

  1. Innovation-to-impact frameworks for clean energy solutions.
  2. Measuring cost-benefit distribution of energy programmes.
  3. Mixed-methods evaluation of programme outcomes.
  4. Behavioural science and energy-related behaviour change.
  5. Energy resilience for vulnerable groups, including low-income households.

Why This Programme Matters

Ireland has legally committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and energy policy is central to this target. This fellowship helps bridge the gap between academic research, policy development, and on-the-ground implementation.

By joining this programme, you’re not just conducting research—you’re helping guide Ireland’s national energy strategy.

Who Can Apply For SEAI ENERGISE Fellowship?

Eligibility is quite clear, but still competitive:

  1. You must be a postdoctoral or experienced researcher. This includes those working in academia, public policy, engineering, behavioural economics, or sustainability fields.
  2. Your application must be backed by a third-level educational institution in Ireland. This is essential whether you’re applying for an Academic or SEAI-Based fellowship.
  3. Funding requests cannot exceed €300,000, inclusive of overhead costs.
